Most of us experience some form of imperfections with our teeth. A tooth may be crooked, chipped, discolored, or have unappealing gaps between teeth. Dental veneers are the perfect cosmetic dental options that give you a beautiful smile without the need for lengthy procedures. At Robert E. Anderson, D.D.S. in Placerville, California, we provide natural-looking veneers to restore your smile aesthetics.Â
What Are Dental Veneers?Â
Dental veneers are fragile, custom-made coverings for a tooth. They are often made of porcelain; these appliances improve a smile and can be made to match the color and form of your natural teeth. The following cosmetic problems can be fixed with veneers:
Tooth Discoloration
Certain tooth stains cannot be fixed with tooth whitening treatments. Dental veneers can significantly hide tooth defects. While the veneer does not change the color of the tooth, the new restoration will be devoid of stains and match your natural teeth.
Fix Small Gaps
Dental veneers can be designed slightly broader than the natural tooth it is covering, effectively concealing a small gap. The veneer will be shaped and color-shaded to match your natural teeth so nobody around you can notice them.
Mild Crowding or Crookedness
In cases of mild crowding, dental veneers can help by disguising the appearance of crookedness, resulting in a straighter row of teeth.
Misshapen Teeth
At times our teeth may wear down due to tooth grinding or other damage, altering the tooth's shape. When one tooth doesn't match in shape, size, or color, it can affect your entire smile. A dental veneer is a perfect solution that can effectively cover the tooth to blend in with the rest of your teeth for a natural flawless smile.
The Dental Veneer Process
During your first visit, Dr. Anderson will prepare your teeth by removing a thin enamel layer from the front surfaces and slightly etching the new surface. This will make space for your veneers and provide a good surface for solid adherence. Photos and measurements will be taken of the prepared teeth and sent to our dental lab. Then a temporary veneer will be fixed to safeguard your prepared tooth.
We will temporarily fit your new veneers during your second appointment to check your bite. After their look and feel is found to be satisfactory, the veneer will be permanently bonded to your teeth using dental cement. Once your new veneers are in position, they will need to be maintained with an effective oral hygiene regime to make them last longer.
